چکیده

The coupling between parametric and external resonances in inclined cables subjected to a motion of an anchorage with components both along and perpendicular to their axis is investigated. Besides posing theoretical challenges, this problem is of practical interest for inclined cables of cable-stayed bridges and guyed towers. First, the state of the art on the subject of multi-modal interactions of cables with moving anchorages is summarized. Then, the proposed analytical model is presented, which is selected to be as simple as possible, but still suitable for capturing the coupling between the first and second eigenmodes, hence between parametric and external resonances. Next, two specific cases of the general model, in which no coupling appears, are studied in order to identify the intrinsic characteristics of external and parametric resonance, respectively. Finally, the coupling between the two instabilities is investigated, aiming at a better understanding of the interaction phenomenon and at formulating practical engineering guidelines. ha l-0 08 75 11 5, v er si on 1 21 O ct 2 01 3 Author manuscript, published in "Compdyn 2011, France (2011)"

An Investigation into the Performance of Excavation with Inclined Struts Connected to Adjacent Buildings

One practical excavation support system is the inclined struts connected to adjacent buildings. This method is very common in small excavations, because of simplicity and minimum cost, when soil is cohesive and depth of excavation is less than stability depth (Hcr) but adjacent structures is at risk of damage due to weakness, old age or lack of proper skeleton frame. Although this method ...

The Response of Two-Degree of Freedom Self-Sustained Systems with Quadratic Nonlinearities to a Parametric Excitation (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this study the interaction between self-excited and paramet rically excited oscillations in two-degree-of-freedom systems with quadratic nonlinearities is investigated. The fundamental parametric resonance of the first mode and 3:1 internal resonance is considered, followed by 1:2 internal and parametric resonances of the second mode. The method of multiple time scales is applied to derive f...

Free Vibration Analysis of a Sagged Cable under Distributed and Concentrated Loads

Vibration analysis for a cable with concentrated loads (mass) has been studied by many researchers under certain assumptions (e.g. see [1], [2]). This paper is to present an analytic method for analyzing sagged cables which have small equilibrium curvature and horizontal supports under both distributed and concentrated loads. The loads are applied at vertical as well as horizontal directions. C...

Static and Dynamic Characteristics of a Long-Span Cable-Stayed Bridge with CFRP Cables

In this study, the scope of CFRP cables in cable-stayed bridges is studied by establishing a numerical model of a 1400-m span of the same. The mechanical properties and characteristics of CFRP stay cables and of a cable-stayed bridge with CFRP cables are here subjected to comprehensive analysis. The anomalies in the damping properties of free vibration, nonlinear parametric vibration and wind f...

Study of the flexural sensitivity and resonant frequency of an inclined AFM cantilever with sidewall probe

The resonant frequency and sensitivity of an atomic force microscope (AFM) cantilever with assembled cantilever probe (ACP) have been analyzed and a closed-form expression for the sensitivity of vibration modes has been obtained. The proposed ACP comprises an inclined cantilever and extension, and a tip located at the free end of the extension, which makes the AFM capable of topography at sidew...
